Escape the crowds and #optoutside on Black Friday and experience unbeatable views of Las Vegas as we celebrate by running Black Mountain’s full 404 loop in the Sloan Canyon NCA.

One of our toughest races of the year, Black Mountain Friday takes you up the steep north slope of majestic Black Mountain only to send you flying back down the western slope for over 2,000 ft of climb in under 7 miles.

Race Distances

Black Mountain Friday only comes in one flavor: 10K with vert!

10K Course

6.5 miles, 2100 ft of vertical climb

Starting from the Shadow Canyon Access Point heading east along Anthem East trail, the course will turn onto the 404 trail and the climb will begin! As a primitive trail, the northern section of 404 will be an uncut trail with markers guiding the way, allowing you to hop and scramble over the native geologic features of Sloan Canyon. After ascending to the very top of Black Mountain, the course heads down the existing 404 trail — a steep but fun descent to the finish line.

Prizes & Awards

There will be custom awards for the top 3 males and top 3 females of the race.

All finishers will receive a Black Mountain coffee mug, and all registered runners will receive a Desert Dash beanie.

Aid Stations

There will not be any aid stations along the course. Runners are required to carry all necessary water and supplies for the run. Water, Tailwind Endurance Fuel, and snacks will be provided before and after the race at the start/finish area.

Bag Check

A bag check will be provided at the race to check any belongings you do not wish to leave in your car during the race.

Packet Pickup

Packet pickup will only be available the day of the event at the Anthem Center remote parking lot.

Refund Policy

We will provide a 100% credit towards a future Desert Dash event up to 6 weeks from the event if notified via email at info@desertdash.com or via phone at (702) 329-0262.

From 6 weeks up to 2 weeks before the event we will issue a 75% credit towards a future event if notified via email, and from 2 weeks up to 48 hours before the event we will issue a 50% credit.

No credit will be issued within 48 hours of or anytime after the event. There are no refunds given.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a “primitive” trail?

    A primitive trail is a trail that is marked by the BLM but is not actually cut into the terrain. Instead, the trail will be “built” as it is used more and more, saving the BLM significant amounts of money and opening the trail to recreational use much sooner.

  • Why aren't there any aid stations?

    Due to the cool weather, the relatively short distance, and the near-impossible-to-reach locations for an aid station, Black Mountain Friday will require all runners to carry enough water and fuel for the race.
