Race Start & cutoff

Course Description

Miles: 4.2 Elevation: 400 ft

When the bell rings at 6:59 am each competitor will have 1 minute to prepare themselves before they must run 6706  meters (4.167 miles) around Spicer Ranch and return to the start/finish area before the end of that hour. Should a runner not make it back before the end of that hour the runner is DNF'd from the race. The remaining competitors will then continue their next lap together at the top of the next hour, completing the same 4.167 mile loop. The runners will continue to run the 4.167 mile loop every hour on the hour until everyone either drops out by not returning to the start/finish area before the end of that hour or decides to stop running.

Expect to gain around 400 feet for each loop as you wind your way through Spicer Ranch, across pastures and up foot hills before descending back down to the start finish area.

Every runner starts each lap together. When the bell tolls, you have 1 minute to prepare yourself for the next lap!

2019 Winner - Daniel Probst

Last year Steven Ems, Zachary Sonoga, Daniel Probst and Maia Detmer battled all day and night for their chance to earn the Last Person Standing. Things looked good for Zach and Steven until the sun dropped out and the cold November air settled into the valley. They each made it to lap 19 before finally relenting to the cold, dark monotony. Maia called it quits shortly after finishing a brutal 20th lap in increasingly colder weather. However, Mr. Probst was still looking fresh and willing to run back into the night. He looked like he was ready to go all day Sunday and perhaps into Monday as well! Instead, Daniel was pronounced the winner and just like that the race was over.

We received an email from Daniel earlier this year to inform us that he was headed back down to Beatty in 2020 to defend the Last Gun Standing award! We're happy to announce that after months of uncertainty for any races in 2020 due to Covid-19 cancellations, Beatty's Backyard Ultra will go down this fall!

Do you have the legs to take home the Last Gun Standing Award? Come challenge Daniel and the gang for round two in Beatty, NV.

See you on the ranch!
